Dal fry/ದಾಲ್ ಫ್ರೈ 


 Ingredients:
1/4 cup - moong dal/ಹೆಸ್ರು ಬೇಳೆ
1/4 cup - channa dal/ಕಡ್ಲೆ ಬೇಳೆ
1/4 cup - tur dal / ತೋಗ್ರಿ ಬೇಳೆ
2 - small onion /ಈರುಳ್ಳಿ
1 - large tomato/ಟೊಮೇಟೊ
1 tsp each - chopped ginger and garlic/ಹಸಿ ಶುಂಟಿ-ಬೆಳ್ಳುಳ್ಳಿ ಪೇಸ್ಟ್
1/4 tsp each - mustard seeds and methi seeds/ಸಾಸಿವೆ, ಮೆಂತ್ಯೆ ಕಾಳು
Garam masala, chilli powder and salt to taste/ಗರಂ ಮಸಾಲೆ ಪುಡಿ, ಖಾರ ಪುಡಿ,ಉಪ್ಪು
4 tsp ghee/ ತುಪ್ಪ.


 Method
  1. Wash the dal and soak for 15 mins.
  2. Half cook the dals in a pressure cooker.
  3. Heat 3 tsp ghee in a pan, add onions, then tomatoes and cook.
  4. Once they are cooked, add garam masala, chilli powder and salt.
  5. Open the pressure cooker, add the cooked tomato and onion mixture and let the dal boil for 10 to 15 min on a low flame.
  6. Heat one tsp ghee, add mustard and methi seeds and saute and then add chopped ginger and garlic and saute.
  7. Then add chopped coriander leaves.
  8. Add this mixture to the dal just before serving and boil for 5 mins.
  9. Garnish with coriander leaves.
  10. Serve with roti, naan  paratha or rice.
